How does God equip us to be "Strong and Courageous"?

This tiny bird is the Ruby Crowned Kinglet. The day after it snowed and while it was still hovering at freezing outside with a north wind, we took a walk around the pond. Along the path there were patches of grass surrounded by snow where these little birds were finding food. We were wrapped up in sweatshirts and hoodies to barely stay warm so it amazed me that these birds could not freeze. They were constantly moving though, grabbing a seed and flying off. They were not thinking, ”I’m strong and courageous” but that is how I perceived them. The red spot on their head is what caught our eyes to watch them and grab a quick photo.

God instinctively equips His creatures with what they need to survive in different environments. How does He equip us to be “strong and courageous”? “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17

“His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence,” 2 Peter 1:3

His Word (Jesus Christ) and His power (Holy Spirit) is how we face this sometimes harsh world with courage. God chose Joshua at the death of Moses to lead His people into the Promised Land. How did He equip Joshua? First, His Word.

“Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.” ‭‭Joshua‬ ‭1‬:‭8‬ ‭

Secondly, His Power.

“No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.” ‭‭Joshua‬ ‭1‬:‭5‬ ‭

I am first to admit that I don’t like this strange land of growing old that I’m faced with. There are “giants” of health and new decisions that I hoped would never happen. But as God promised Joshua if he was “strong and courageous” and moved forward into the new territory with His Word and His power, ‘The Lord your God will give you rest …”

‭‭Joshua‬ ‭1‬:‭13‬

“What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?…

No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.”

Romans 8:31,37

“And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:20

Today, be strong and courageous to step forward with His Word and His power.

Amen. 🙏👆📖💪
