"Deception in Nature: The Greater Bee Fly - A False Bee"

As I “fixed my eyes” on this unique flower, the “false spirea “, I noticed this flying bug that appeared to be a bee. However, after further investigation, I found it is actually the Greater Bee Fly and is a “false” bee. So what you see in this photo is a plant that is like a fern but not and a fly that is like a bee but not. We can be deceived by lack of facts and appearance until we focus up close.

Greater Bee Fly

When the writer of Hebrews said to keep our eyes on Jesus and then “consider Him”, he knew that to many Jesus was from a distance just a prophet, Elijah, John the Baptist, a good Rabbi/teacher, even a false prophet. Only by focusing closely on this man calling Himself the Son of God would each person be convinced He is truly the Messiah promised. We need only to remember doubting Thomas needing to see Jesus’ nail pierced hands to know we need to “keep  our eyes” closely on the Truth of the Gospel.

“Be careful not to let anyone rob you [of this faith] through a shallow and misleading philosophy. Such a person follows human traditions and the world's way of doing things rather than following Christ.” Colossians 2:8

It is amazing to me how God uses His Creation to teach us the very lessons we need to live a Christlike life. He has created flora (plants)and fauna (animals)to appear to be one variety but are deceptively another to teach us discernment in all we approach in this life. “The wisdom of the prudent is to discern his way, but the folly of fools is deceiving.” Proverbs 14:8

So “His Word shall not fail you--He promised;

Believe Him, and all will be well:

Then go to a world that is dying,

His perfect salvation to tell! Turn your eyes upon Jesus. Look full in his wonderful face. And the things of earth will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace. “

Amen.
