"How Can Trust be Built and Change our Natural Instinct?"

“Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” ‭‭Hebrews ‭4‬:‭16‬

Pelicans in water

These brown pelicans are one of three species found in the Americas. They feed by diving into the water for fish swimming under the surface and use their bill pouch like a fishing net to scoop the fish into their bill. They then tip their head forward to drain out the water then back to swallow the fish.

However, as you can see in this photo, they have lined up by the boat just waiting to be fed. When people are near with bait, they draw near and come boldly for a meal. They have learned to trust people, which is not their natural instinct, by coming closer to the outreached hands to fulfill their need.

In the story of Peter walking on water, Jesus told him to come to Him but appeared to be at a distance. But when Peter began to sink, Jesus reached out His hand and suddenly was near to rescue Peter. Each time we almost fall, like Peter we learn a little more trust in our need for a gracious Savior. “When he falls, he will not be hurled down, Because the LORD is the One who holds his hand.” Psalm 37:4

“The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.” Psalm 145:18
