When you go through the Butterfly exhibit, you have to be patient to find all the beautiful specimens like this one camouflaged on the fern. Some visitors may want to rush through, but that leads to missing out on what the exhibit has to offer. There is so much to learn about God through His Creation that we should not rush through life to the next event without learning in the moment. Some often think of learning as “work” and not fun. Therefore, they are idle in mind, missing God’s timing and purpose.

Paul as did James was warning that though Jesus’ return seemed imminent , as long as there was day, believers needed to work as if the Day of return was far off. There is always work to be done and God gave man the gift of working because idleness does not represent His image. “In his defense Jesus said to them, “My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I too am working.” John 5:17
Being patient does not mean waiting silently in idleness (unless it is a respectful posture for a short time) but instead it means being productive in all God has given you to do while you wait. “Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.” Ephesians 5:15-17
When I was a new believer in Jesus, I would wonder what God’s will was for me like being some far away missionary. That seemed implausible with a husband and 4 kids to raise. It didn’t occur to me that His Will is simply that my heart is aligned with His Spirit so “Whatever you (I)do, I work at it with all your (my)heart, as working for the Lord,..”Colossians 3:23 “So whether (I) you eat or drink or whatever you (I) do, do it all for the glory of God.” 1 Corinthians 10:31
“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. “ 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
“The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him.” Lamentations 3:25
As we wait for Jesus’ return, even when signs make it seem imminent, we must be seeking Him to “work out our salvation”one day at a time. “As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me.” John 9:4
