"How to Start Our Day on a Firm Foundation for Greater Success and Happiness"

It is 4 AM and my mind says it is time to get up and brew the coffee. That first cup satisfies. Our minds run on habits that can form the rhythms of our day and to miss the habit, leaves one discontent, like a misstep in a dance routine. But those habits good or bad create a foundation on which our day is built. That’s why we must start our day on a firm foundation in God’s Word, for as 1 Corinthians 3:11 says, "For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ."

Psalm 90 is a prayer by Moses who starts it out with proclaiming God as the sure foundation on which to build. “”Lord, you have been our dwelling place in all generations. Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.“ ‭‭Psalm‬ ‭90‬:‭1‬-‭2‬

Moses, as leader of Israelite people, believed God and it was credited to him as "righteousness”. He wasn’t perfect but he knew his foundation and who satisfied his soul.

King David reinstated the same belief in Psalm 16. “The Lord is my chosen portion and my cup; you hold my lot. You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.“ ‭‭Psalm‬ ‭16‬:‭5‬,11

“My cup overflows and surely, goodness and mercy shall follow me…”Psalm 23:5-6

After my first cup of coffee, I read Bible commentaries and the Bible in a year Bible app as a habit. Usually, one verse will stand out and then I find a photo that fits. Sometimes I have already taken a photo in anticipation that I’d find a verse. These days, I feel satisfied before I move on to the things of the world. Regardless of the day after that, God has filled my cup to overflowing with His Word.

Horizon of sky

“Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.” John 6:35 Jesus satisfies us in every way and so “the joy of the Lord is my strength.” Nehemiah 8:10

Today, let’s start your day with God’s steadfast love and on His firm foundation and “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. “ Romans 15:13
