This Sea Purslane is a perennial herb that grows in the sandy coastal areas of most continents. The five point flower opens in the sun but closes in cloudy and night skies. It has medicinal qualities used by some cultures.
What “compels” you to take action in your daily life? The verb “to compel” is from the Latin “compellere” which means to drive together. For me, I feel driven to bring together nature and God’s Word, therefore, I always have my phone/camera ready to capture in real life something in Creation.
Compel means also to overcome a resistance by another force, not by violence but through a change in focus. I used to jog without noticing what was around me and I focused on mileage and personal accomplishment. But God refocused me by slowing down my physical abilities so I could see Him around me.
In this chapter, Paul was saying to the Corinthians that “Christ's love has moved me to such extremes. His love has the first and last word in everything we do.” God stopped Paul (AKA Saul) on the road to Damascus to refocus him and change what would drive his devotions the rest of his life. Once a persecutor of Christians, Paul became “constrained” and “compelled” to live for the One who saved His soul from death.
”For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.“ John 3:16-17
”For the love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that if One died for all, then all died; and He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again. Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God. For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.“ II Corinthians 5:14-15, 20-21
What compels you into action today?
“And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ”
Colossians 3:23.
