What is your Life?

Every morning before the sun rises, I sit watching the tiny flecks swirl around in this snow globe. They are like the craziness in this world and also the many scattered thoughts in my head. But in the center , there is the immovable unchangeable Holy Family with Jesus as the center.

This verse in Psalm 62 struck me today as written in the NRSV used by Gospel of Asia daily readings. The flecks in the snow globe are “together lighter than a breath”. There is nothing that distinguishes one from another- they all float the same. We can get filled with fear over the power of the elite global leaders and their vendetta to destroy freedom especially freedom to believe in the God of the Bible. Yet, each one ,like this verse says, is a delusion, a lie of Satan, with no substance.

James, the very blunt Epistle writer reiterates the same idea. “Yet you do not even know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.” James 4:14

That’s discouraging but James’ point based on the Psalmist too, is “Instead, you ought to say, "If it is the Lord's will, we will live and do this or that."

”So teach us to number our days, That we may cultivate and bring to You a heart of wisdom.“

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭90‬:‭12‬ ‭AMP‬‬

So as I stare at the snow globe, I could focus on the swirling flecks and feel chaos or focus on Jesus, the author and perfecter of my faith. I could focus today on the chaos of the world or on Jesus so as to “cultivate a heart of wisdom.”

The psalmist concludes,

“God has spoken once, Twice I have heard this: That power belongs to God. Also to You, O Lord, belong lovingkindness and compassion, For You compensate every man according to [the value of] his work.“

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭62‬:‭11‬-‭12‬ ‭AMP‬‬

Each day we make a choice. We are created to do good works in the short life we are given. Focus today on Jesus and rest in Him.

”For God alone my soul waits in silence; From Him comes my salvation. He alone is my rock and my salvation, My defense and my strong tower; I will not be shaken or disheartened.“

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭62‬:‭1‬-‭2‬ ‭AMP‬‬

Amen. Amen.
