”Jesus said to him, “If I will that he remain till I come, what is that to you? You follow Me.” John 21:22

These wild and/or garden flowers are unique and beautiful. They are an example of the vast diversity of creation. You wouldn’t think to compare them with the beauty of the bluebonnets in the garden pot next to them. A flower would never say to God,”what about that other flower?” God gives them each individual characteristics and life to bring glory to him.
Yet, how often like Peter, we ask God “What about so and so . Why do I have to bloom like this but that person doesn’t?” More than not, it is why do I have to suffer in this way but that person doesn’t . Jesus had just tested Peter by asking him three times, “Do you love me? Then feed my sheep.“ Then hinted at the way Peter would one day sacrifice his life in Jesus’ Name. Then ended with the instruction , “Follow Me.” Immediately Peter asked,”What about him (meaning John)?”
Comparison keeps us from obeying God and in the end, we cannot fulfill the purpose of our life.
When Jesus tells me “Follow Me”, He isn’t saying, “Look around and see what others are doing to see if they got a better deal.” His deal for all who follow Him is tailored perfectly “to work together for the good”. Romans 8:28
I must remember He created me individually to do a work for which no one else has been gifted identically. Ephesians 2:10 says “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”
There was a movie long ago “What About Bob?” It was a comedy but when Jesus chose me to follow Him, He wasn’t joking. He gave me specific instructions as a wife, mother, counselor, and all parts of me that include “Bob” but yet are mine to do regardless. I cannot ask Jesus, “What about Bob” or anyone else for I will inevitably face Jesus on my own . To heed His call now just as I am is just a part of my personal eternity with Him.
“Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you. Give careful thought to the[a] paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways. Do not turn to the right or the left; keep your feet from evil.” Proverbs 4:25-27
God is faithful to keep us so we can faithfully follow. “I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you.” Jeremiah 31:3
Amen. 👆❤️
